"Stella Maris" |
The use of the name Stella Maris is attributed to St. Jerome, but he called Mary as "Stilla
Maris", meaning "a drop of the ocean"; perhaps a copyist mistranscribed the phrase. St. Paschasius Radbertus, French
Benedictine abbot and theologian, used this title for Mary in his writing: "Mary Star of the Sea must be followed in faith and
morals lest we capsize amidst the storm-tossed waves of the sea. She will illumine us to believe in Christ born of Her for the
salvation of the world." |
