Visit the places associated with the apparitions of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Mexican culture on this
exploration of Mexico City and its surroundings. |

Mexico City started as very small islands called chinampas
("floating fields") by the Aztecs, and then known as Tenochtitlan. Eventually, it became the great city you now see. Your
full day of sightseeing starts with a visit to Tlatelolco where the Church of Santiago is located, where Franciscan priests lived
during the time of the apparitions. Here, the Indian named Cuauhtlatoa (meaning "Singing
Eagle") was faithfully attending Catechism classes until he was finally baptized as Juan Diego. Just a few feet away is the Plaza
of the Three Cultures which commemorates the 3 distinct periods: pre-Hispanic, Colonial, and Contemporary. Then continue to Tulpetlac,
site of the 4th apparition where Our Blessed Mother appeared to Juan Bernardino (Juan Diego’s uncle), and where most likely Mass will
be celebrated. In the afternoon, proceed to the Tepeyac area, currently known as "La Villa" where your Tour Director will
give an introductory tour of the New Basilica, Old Basilica, the apparition site, and the garden. |
